When the new Sal 20 from éS arrived a lot of us began to reminisce. This shoe made a big impact. It definitely made aesthetics (excuse the pun) a more heavily considered factor when it came to shoe design. This video sees Sal Barbier talking about designing this shoe and has footage of him still killing it on four wheels. Sal’s influence on skateboarding was that of a pioneer as Rob Welsh remembers in this short feature, he was an inspiration. The original Sal 23 shoe was ahead of it’s time when it was first released as an etnies model. So much so that in 1995 when éS was launched, the Sal 23 was the first shoe in the collection. The simple design and clean colour combinations are unmistakeable and iconic. For this reason, unlike many other shoes from back then, their appeal is timeless. They look just as good now as when they originally came out. This new limited edition incarnation of the shoe is slightly slimmed down and has been released in the original colours. Instead of the 23 there is a 20 embroidered on the heel, this is to celebrate the brands 20 year anniversary. We received them in Black and White…
